Pushing Back from the Gate

Pushing back from the gate,
The journey’s final flight,
One last joyous goodbye to Patrick,
Enhanced by reflections of Stephanie,
And newfound kinship
On distant river.

La valse d’Amélie on my headphones
Triggers a twinge,
Then a wave,
Then a flood of sadness.

Now
George Winston’s Walking on Air
Reinforces the mood.

Wheels up.
Bank to the west.
Weather the bumps.
Climb to 38,000 feet.

It’s time to go home.
