You’re Very Brave to Go on Living Alone

Here’s a newsy letter from Patrick to his mother dated 21 April 1993, written shortly after her second husband passed away.

It’s scanned, not typed, so the search tools won’t work well on it. Of course, if someone wants to type it up, I’ll be happy to add your efforts here.

Patrick and I didn’t communicate much before e-mail became prevalent, as illustrated by his comments about my own life at the time. Either I described my situation poorly or he misunderstood, both of which were likely, since our worlds were almost diametrically opposite. I was an engineer at this point, not a technician, and my girlfriend was the opposite of a stock car driver – she disliked racing intensely. When I’d return home from an event at the track she’d ask “Anybody killed this weekend?”
