Mem-Mari

Create a montage of those events that most often recur in memory.

Mari got a a job teaching elementary art in Centereach.  We found a cottage in Lake Ronkokoma to rent.  Since she was teaching under the name on her teaching certificate, we lived under that name – last name Irvin.

Her sister Nancy and baby daughter Regina came to live with us. When the blizzards began, we had to look for a new place, since there was no heating in our cottage, built for the summer.

I was surprised to receive a certified letter in my real name, delivered Special Delivery to my hand.  From Donna.  How she found me who knows.


I delivered the Mexican divorce papers to the address I had for Mari in the Bronx.

“It’s a good thing Leon is not here!” Regina told me, scowling, six years old.  Mari set out cups of tea on an apple crate which served as a coffee table.  I gave her a copy of the Mexican divorce.  She showed me a recent work.  Vari-colored tissue paper in collage. Mountains in Izmir?

You know her family blamed her problems on me.  Every one of them – well, maybe not that one sister, Nancy, who also was a little off her rocker.
