a few poems from another life (by Robert Dreicer)

 levittown
awakened by thunder
a bearded madman
in splatterpaint pajama top
chasing kids
down a cool morning
kicking a garbage can
belonging to no one
###

like mother like son
toking up
holding holding holding
remembering my mother sunning
on the sands of miami beach
you think its easy getting a tan
###

queen of the may
leafyviney is playing queen of the may
center on the ledge shes getting all
the attention from the crowd below
her entourage –
                               spikey-cactus-spiney
                   flower-cactus                 leafy-cactus
                                     and fernylacey
who is making a play
but squeezed in a corner
leafyviney is still without real competition
queen of the may
###

the thing about  eating alone
the thing about eating alone
without radio or stereo or tv
is the startling thrill
of that crunch of celery
###

would you believe
harrison the cockroach lives
in my refrigerator
there he was tonight
sprawled frozen drunk
on an egg

Robert was one of Patrick’s dearest friends. Patrick saved this collection in a single file (probably captured from e-mail) so I’m posting it in the same way. The titles were originally underlined by I’m making them bold and italicized for clarity.
