I haven’t posted anything new for a few days because Patrick’s granddaughter Abby and her guardians Julie and Rui are visiting us. We’ve had a full vacation so far, including a trip all the way up to San Francisco, then out in the country to visit Gretchen, Continue reading “More Coming Soon”
Ludwig and Maria wrote from Germany:
thank you very much for your message. We are very sad to learn about the death of your father Patrick. We have known each other for many years. My wife Maria and I have been visiting your parents very often during the 90th. We got along very well and remember many cheerful evenings an also concerts we visited together. Patrick will stay in our memory and we are very glad that we had the opportunity of getting to know him.

A beautiful note from Clare Benjamin and Fynn Clarke, with a promise of more to follow.
Thank you for letting us know the very sad news of Patrick’s death.
This is just a brief email as we want to write a longer one with happy memories of time spent with Patrick in Deia and our last meet up with him in Valldemossa in 2016.
We feel very lucky to have met him some ten years ago, as a result of renting The Cottage in Deia, and falling in love with Deia and the beautiful place that Patrick had created together with Stephanie who he talked about with love so often. Continue reading “He Was a Remarkable, Vital Man”
We’re having a US-based memorial on Oct 21st at 1:00 PM in Cincinnati, Ohio, at Spring Grove Cemetery, Section 28, plot 5. The grave marker for both of them has been ordered. Anyone who knew either or both of them is invited to attend and share any thoughts or memories. Tate’s children Alison Shepard and Carl Shepard will offer music as well.
From Catrin Edwards, who met Patrick around seven or eight years ago:
I was sorry to hear your sad news. We rented a place from your father & stayed in Deya over Easter around seven or eight years ago – it was sometime after he’d retired from being director of the festival. We found him charming, kind & generous and so interesting to talk to. I am also a musician. It was my first time to Majorca and we loved Deja, the lemon groves and little bay close to the house and the great walking around the village and down the coast. It was always somewhere I wanted to return to.
My thoughts are with you, your sisters and the rest of the family. Losing a parent is heartbreaking.
A lovely and succinct note from Lluís Rullan, the manager of the Aparthotel Soller Beach.
Thanks for the information. Your father was a great man and did many good things for Mallorca. RIP.
Please accept my sincerest condolences on the loss of your dear father, Patrick Meadows. I will always appreciate his efforts to establish and run the Deia Festival, in which my “Wind Quintet” has been premiered thanks to him. Continue reading “My Wind Quintet Premiered Thanks to Him”
Sam Jones wrote from the UK about visiting Mallorca over the years, beginning 25 years ago, saying “Mallorca to me has always meant that very special house inhabited by those two extraordinary people” and “All of my friends who met him fell in love with him a little.” Here’s the full letter.
Thank you so much for letting me know about Patrick.
I’ve had to spend a day digesting the news before contacting you. Continue reading “That Very Special House Inhabited by Those Two Extraordinary People”
